'First time' to Barnsley for fourteen visitors emphasises the strength of friendship and interest in our twin town societies.
The draft programme is now formulated and revives some of the more traditional sights in Barnsley and surrounds for the many 'first timer' Schwabian visitors to Barnsley. The party of forty one visitors from Schwäbisch Gmünd will arrive in Barnsley around midday on Wednesday 22nd August staying with families and members of the BSGTT Society or in an hotel until Sunday 26th when they travel onwards to Llandudno and the sights and beauty of Snowdonia.
Whilst in Barnsley a programme which provides maximum flexibility to relax and spend time with hosts set around the Town Hall official greeting and Saturday’s Farewell dinner is planned.
After arriving and settling in, a tour of Worsbrough Mill including a walk in the area will work up an appetite for the “Pie & Pea – Welcome Supper” at
		  The Rockingham Centre, Hoyland.
Thursday sees a visit to York followed by “party time” in the evening and a chance to relax, speak with and get to know better other members of the two twin town societies.
The Official welcome and a visit to Barnsley Town Hall is planned for Friday morning, thereafter a choice of activities including a visit to the market and other Barnsley attractions or alternatively Wentworth Castle Gardens or a walk in Wortley finishing with tea and scone at Wortley Hall. No one’s left out, there’s another party in the evening and with a rotation of guests another chance to ‘chinwag’ over a drink or two.

The now famous and popular Hepworth Gallery is the venue for Saturday morning culture, moving on and just for good measure Yorkshire Sculpture Park provides a chance to see the first major UK exhibition of sculpture by Joan Miró, one of Europe's most important 20th century artists.
In between, weather permitting, a picnic in the park offers ample pause and refreshment ahead of the Farewell Dinner at Ardsley House Hotel.
Unfortunately, an early morning rise beckons, plans to meet again privately will be quickly made, as too the goodbyes, as the coach departs promptly for Wales.
