St. Michael-Chorknaben Boys Choir visit Barnsley
15/09/10
St. Michael-Chorknaben Boys Choir from Schwäbisch Gmünd thrilled capacity audiences at three concerts given by the choir during their recent visit to Barnsley.
As part of a thirteen day tour to Barnsley, Exeter and London, the whistle stop tour included Stonehenge, Dartmoor, Plymouth, spontaneous concerts at Buckfast Abbey and Exeter Cathedral, Oxford and it’s Universities, before sight-seeing Tower Bridge, The Houses of Parliament with Big Ben and Hyde Park in London.
Whilst in Barnsley their busy schedule began with visits to The National Coal Mining Museum, Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United, and Meadowhall Shopping Centre.

A relaxing highpoint for the boys was a visit to Lightwater Valley Theme Park where I am reliably informed Oberbürgermeister Richard Arnold led the boys and the official delegation from Schwäbisch Gmünd on all the rides.
A reception for the Gmünder group in Barnsley Town Hall together with representatives of Barnsley Schwäbisch Gmünd Society completed the Barnsley programme, leaving just enough time to squeeze in the three concerts in St. Mary’s Church, Emmanuel Methodist Church in Barnsley and St. John the Baptist Church in Penistone.
Residents of Barnsley were treated to ‘high quality’ performances of a varied programme ranging from church music to pop, earning the choir standing ovations at all three venues as the audiences showed their delight and appreciation!
